KIPP Antioch College Prep Elementary Receives AIA Middle TN Design Award

Citation Award: Family and Children's Services

Designed by: Hastings Architecture

Entry number: 14

Location: Nashville

Project description: The Honey Alexander Center serves as the new headquarters for Family and Children’s Services, a Nashville-based nonprofit that connects people in crisis with resources.

Comments: “The jury appreciated the whimsical and expressive elements of the design, but also appreciated how the plan layout contributes to the important work done by this venerated non-profit. The designers were able to maximize the design impact of the exterior and interior of the building using common materials and construction techniques, and with a relatively modest construction budget. Important visual aspects of the existing warehouse building were preserved, contributing to the industrial character of the surrounding neighborhood. The jury also was complementary of the interior design for the project, even considering it for an independent award in that category. Ultimately, the overall success of the design, both interior, and exterior, lead to the citation in the large project’s category.”
