HistoryEstablished in 1899 by Charles A. Howell as a paint- contracting firm, C.A. Howell and Company (CAHCo) was founded based on a single aim: service, for profit, at a risk. Charlie was active in the community and was a charter member of the Nashville Rotary Club. The company’s very unique early 1900’s stationery is still proudly displayed and often used in the company’s marketing materials. The 1920’s customer list included Cain-Sloan Company, Richland Country Club, Cheek-Neal Coffee Company, and Standard Candy Company. Charles A. Howell, Jr. changed the company’s business to general contracting. He acquired the company’s headquarters, called The Shop, in 1939. During his tenure as CEO, he focused on communicating the company’s values and doing what the Customer needed done. Charles A. Howell, III expanded the company’s markets to include significant and historic construction projects across the state of Tennessee. Customers included Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner, and Smith, J.C. Bradford and Co., Belle Meade Mansion, The Hermitage, Travelers Rest, and Historic Rugby. Charles, III actively served his community, friends, and family by starting an independent school, serving in a number of public and government positions, and coaching athletic teams. In 2024, CAHCo is a Management Contractor specializing in leading real estate, construction and relocation projects for growing companies.
